Welcome Reception

Last night we were welcomed to the Indian Fulbright community with a lavish dinner at the Aftab Mahtab in the Taj Mahal Hotel. We mingled with former Fulbrighters, current Fulbright doctoral students, folks from the U.S. Embassy, as well as local educators. It was a wonderful opportunity for discussions, and realize how very fortunate I am to have been chosen for this adventure in India.

This morning, July 2nd, I taught my first yoga class to a couple of Fulbrighters. It was a lot of fun to teach in India, although the environment was the gym in the basement, not the ideal yoga setting, but it was fun.

Later, the Fulbright crew headed to the National Museum and saw incredible artwork. I photographed a few scultures of yoga poses. Also, I was interested to find a beautiful painted representation of Krishna and Arjuna from the Bhaghavad Gita, the Hindu holy text. The Gita relates how Arjuna was conflicted with going to battle against his cousins, and Krishna eases his concerns with wise teachings. The picture is posted above.

Heading to a discussion on the development of children's literature, and then shopping around town.
