Religious Tours

On July 3rd we had a busy morning of seeing the Qutab Minar, Lotus Temple, and Humayun's Tomb. The Qutab Minar is a tower built in 1193. The first mosque in India was created at that site.

The Lotus Temple, also known as the Bahai Temple is open to people of all religions. As it is shaped like a lotus flower, it represents purity and is a great place for meditation. Our group seemed to stand out at this location. Many people were taking photos of us, not quite discreetly. I welcomed the attention, talking to students to engage them in English (I figure they need the speaking practice).

By the time we reached Humayun's Tomb, our group was beginning to melt. It is super hot in India, but we are doing our best to keep hydrated and absorb as much knowledge as we can on this fast paced journey.

Afternoon speakers discussed the caste system and democracy in India. Later in the evening we visited the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara (a Sikh temple) and the Lakshmi Narayan (Birla) Mandir Temple. I've been to them both previously, but the return was more special this time. Since it was Sunday, more people attended the religious ceremonies, and both temples were filled with singing and chanting. A lovely experience.
