July 6th was an early morning, checking out of the Taj Mahal in Delhi. We were exposed to the Indian Rail system as we caught the 7:40 am train to Chandigarh. Fortunately, we were escorted by the USIEF crew, who had porters to handle our baggage, as we zigzagged through the crowds. We sat in the premium section of the train, which was kind of like LIRR, and departed to our tour bus to Shimla. The road up to Shimla is extremely curvy and narrow, which makes passing cars exciting especially since the road is situated near sheer cliffs.
Shimla is a beautiful town in Himachal Pradesh, the north of India. I equate it to the Indian Catskills, since the town was built over several hills, and it seems as if many Indians go there in the summer to enjoy the cooler weather. We settled at the beautiful Raddison, and headed out to the mall, an outside shopping area. The weather here is fantastic... no humidity, and as the night went on the temperatures dropped to where we had to put on long sleeves. I'm looking forward to the next few days activities in this town.
